Controlling worms is the number one animal health issue for most sheep producers in Australia, costing more than $350 million annually in deaths, lost production, prevention and treatment costs. With this in mind it is important that producers can easily find all the information they need in one place. That source is WormBoss.
The new WormBoss website is a national information resource for worm control that provides rapid and convenient access to the latest advice on sustainable and effective sheep worm management. The WormBoss website includes information on:
Your program - This section details worm control programs covering eight different regions within Australia and provides information on grazing management, breeding worm resistant sheep, when to WormTest and when to drench.
Worms - Find out about roundworms, tapeworms, fluke and other parasites of sheep, including information about the location, signs, diagnosis and treatment of these worms and parasites.
Tests and Tools - This section includes an interactive Drench Decision Guide that allows you to work through several scenarios that match your current situation and includes specific recommendations. It also includes information on managing drench resistance and choosing the right drench.
Drenches - This section provides an up to date search facility to help you select the right drench by worm type and length of protection. There are details of drench groups, active ingredients and drench product names.
News - Providing you with the latest state outlooks and feature articles, media releases and information about workshops/events and training.
You can subscribe to the WormBoss monthly newsletter to keep up to date with current issues, prevailing conditions and whether worms are on the increase in your region. WormBoss has been a collaborative effort, developed by leading Australian sheep parasitologists to provide accurate, reliable and independent information on worm control and funded by Australian Wool Innovation and the Sheep CRC and is also supported by agribusiness including Animal Health Alliance (Australia) Ltd, the national organisation representing drench manufacturers and registrants.

The WormBoss workshop is a small-group, activity-based workshop for sheep producers across Australia, to improve their ability to effectively control sheep worms. The focus is on practices a sheep producer can do to control worms on their property, with the minimum of academic theory. The workshop is tailored to cover all aspects of worm control relevant to the region in which it is delivered. This typically includes: The effects of worms; Preparing low worm-risk paddocks; Breeding for worm resistance; Worm testing; When to drench and Managing drench resistance.
